Orange Avenue Wit

#18
Coronado Brewing Company
Orange Avenue Wit         Rating: 85

Fruit + Witbier = Goodness
Good beer here. Serve chilly.
Witbiers tend to be on the dry side with a medium body, spicy yeast and a lot of the time with orange hints. This beer fits the norm with a touch more of orange/tangerine flavor. Summertime beer for sure!

Dogfish Head Sixty-One (61)

Sixty-One (61)             Rating: 89

IPA brewed with Syrah grape must.
I don't know what "grape must" is but add it to beer and it is delicious. 61 is a mild IPA with moderate grape taste, but nothing overwhelming. I could drink these all day! Nothing that will knock your socks off, but definitely worth a try.

Due South Brewery

Caramel Cream Ale    Rating:91
This beer can be found in pubs around SoFL.  One thing I learned is to ask for this beer poured as Nitro. Nitrous pours area similar to Guinness and produce a thicker, full-bodied beer. CO2 pours are what you get in the other 99% of beers.
Really excellent beer. Just a touch of hoppiness with great flavor that isn't overbearing. A great brew!
Roasted Cocoa Stout  88
It is what it sounds like. Slightly malty with cocoa notes and an medium/heavy body.
Mexican Standoff 81*****
**Disclaimer** I do not like pepper flavored beers. I love hot sauce. I love spicy foods, but don't put that in my beer.
With that being said this beer is still pretty good. This peppers linger towards the end and isn't as intense as other beers (for instance the Cigar City Lips of Faith). You will definitely catch the cinnamon up front, fades into a little vanilla and then comes the heat. This beer is 8.5% so beware!
Hypoluxo IPA 80
Your basic IPA.
Honey Vanilla Wheat 82
Typically lager with mild, mild hints of honey and vanilla. The average person wouldn't be able to pick up the taste of either vanilla or honey.

Smooth, hoppy and carbonated with orange and grapefruit hints.
This mildly sweet and piney IPA blast hops out of the bottle with some citrus fruit (grapefruit) taste.
Good IPA.

Hopped on the High Seas dry-hopped with Citra

#10
Cigar City
Hopped on the High Seas dry-hopped with Citra
Rating: 94

Special release from Cigar City. Luckily grabbed on of the only 6-packs in the store...canned just 5 days ago!!
Pours light yellow with clean white head.
Smell: Piney, wintergreen, sweetness
Taste: Sweet hops hops hops!!! The initial piney/earthy hops hit ya upfront, then comes the sweet and tangy citrus grapefruit taste followed by a dry sweet finish. Hints of gummy bears.

Brooklyn Local #2

#9
Brooklyn Brewery
Brooklyn Local 2                      Rating: 91

Classy stuff here. Poppin' beer bottles. Never drank a beer with a cork so I was excited to try this one.
Poured pretty dark brown with a hint of burgundy.
Smelled very subtle sweet caramel
Taste: Highly carbonated, high alcohol (9%) with sweetness of honey. Not overly hoppy. Dry finish. Overall, this beer won't blow your taste buds out of the water but its a well balanced brew that will give you a good buzz. I paid $10 for this at Total Wine, wouldn't pay that again, but a great beer to share.

Intuition Ale Works
I-10 IPA                                          Rating:94

Solid all around.
Smells like it tastes. Above average hops with earthy hints and sweetness. The hops upfront are intense followed by an acidic fruity sweetness. Slight bitterness, but I love this brew.
Shout out to Jason Portal for the recommendation.
Last night in JAX so I figured I'd drink something local. If your in the area, I'd highly recommend. This is my favorite Jax beer so far.

KCCO Black Lager

#7
Resignation Brewery + Red Hook Brewery
KCCO (Keep Calm and Chive On) Black Lager   Rating: 87

A website called, The Chive, decided to brew their own beer and I have been anticipating the release for months. They first released it on the west coast to men and women in the Armed Forces and it has slowly moved its way across the nation. I was ecstatic to find this bottle in Jax Total Wine.

Haven't had many black lagers in my life but I am a fan.
Pours more of a light brown than black with a nice brown head.
Mildly sweet - light raisin balanced with a touch of barreled/smokiness and a slightly dry finish. Nothing that will blow you away, but for The Chive's purposes (which is to party your face off), this is an extremely drinkable beer. I didn't plan on liking this beer considering two brothers who run a website for a living concocted this creation, but I am impressed.

Chive On!

Pike Dry Wit

Dry Wit                                 Rating: 88

Forget Miller! No joke ladies and gentlemen, this is "the champagne of beers".
An upfront smell of fruits and wheat.
Instant taste of fruit and champagne followed with an extra dry finish. Never had anything like it...Pours a huge head - like champagne, extra carbonation - like champagne, tastes like...champagne...but is a beer. Unbelievable stuff here. Mildly bitter and sour with an apple and grape flavor. This is bubbles in a bottle! Perfect beer for champagne drinkers...
$1.99 at total wine

Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter

#5
Leinenkugel's
Snowdrift Vanilla Porter              Rating:90

Ok now this is quality stuff!
Pours pretty light brown/black for a porter.
No smell (for those into sniffing beer before they drink it).
Flavor: Heavy vanilla sweetness with some mild cherry and caramel notes. Great balance of flavors from this beer. Little bit of burnt cocoa towards the end.
Great porter to try for those who "don't like dark beers".

Goose Island Beer Co. - Summertime

#4
Goose Island
Summertime            Rating:70

First I want to thank Julie and Matt for sharing this beer with me. Ironically drinking this Summertime beer in the midst of a nationwide freeze...currently 30 degrees here in Jax.

This beer is good not great. Not a whole lot going on...mild yeast, crisp carbonation, easy drink. I think Goose Island wanted to make a beer to penetrate the niche "beach" market like Corona has done so well. But you won't find this beer in my cooler. Stick with Goose Island's 312

Shout out to the Noles on winning the last BCS Championship

Killer Whale Cream Ale

#3
Bold City Brewery:
Killer Whale Cream Ale
Rating: 15

Bold City is 1 of 3 main breweries currently in Jacksonville. Small little hole in the wall with live music and local feel. Cool little spot. Love the cans.

I wanted to love this beer, I wanted to at least like it, but its just plain stinks.
Pours so clear you can practically see through it. No smell - mild hint of being skunked.
Taste: mild mild cream, touch of caramel and light lemon.
If you like plain lagers such as Miller Lite, Coors and Budweiser you will love this beer. But for those looking for some flavor...skip this beer.

@Moon River Brewing

1. Captain's Porter: Dark pour, crisp and carbonated with a coffee and cocoa taste, sweet like Coca-Cola and refreshing porter.  Rating: 87
2. Wildy Wacky Wit - It's Blue Moon with a different name. Wasn't a huge fan, but if you like Blue Moon you will enjoy.   Rating: 72

Moon River Brewing is a really cool place in downtown Savannah, GA near the river. They host a large outside area with a projector TV. Perfect for Sunday football or large events. Downstairs resembles a speakeasy saloon with brick walls and unique tunnels. Overall: Good beer. Great location. Modern beer garden outside, Prohibition-like saloon downstairs. Enjoy!

Mission Statement

Most people have New Years Resolutions like lose 10 pounds, graduate, get a job, etc. My challenge is to drink a beer a day, 365 beers, no more, no less and write about them.
Let the drinking begin!
